What should I bring to the event?

We encourage you to bring your tent.  But, if you are flying in, or traveling excessive long distance, you do not need to bring it. We will offer you period shelter.

If you do not wish to participate in the common cooking for your camp, you must bring your own cookware.  We will still have fresh rations available for you, and provide plenty of firewood.

On the American side, the tavern will accommodate up to 8 in rough comfort.  There are no beds, just a wood floor.  Air mattresses and sleeping bags can be stored in the loft, and will be out of public eye.  Officers will have the use of Messr. Boucher's quarters, with room for 2 or 3 very comfortably.  You may wish to have your own campaign cot.  The room is in public view, though, and "modernism's" must be out of site, during public hours.

On the British side, the guides house has 34 wooden bunks.  They are period built, and taller people may find them uncomfortable.  There are no mattresses.  If you wish to bring a modern air mattress or sleeping pad, it must be out of site during public hours.  You might want a plain canvas bag to keep you stuff in. A period wooden box is also acceptable, and has the advantage of being lockable. We will have someone in the barracks at all times when the fort is open to the public.

British officers may find separate quarters in the Bell House.  Officers may wish to bring their campaign chests.

Many participants may only need to bring their personal items with them.

Here is a list of recommended kit. You may add or subtract items as you wish, to suit your needs.

  1. Uniform(s) appropriate to your character.
  2. Historical Clothing.
  3. Sleep ware. (The barracks are not conducive to privacy!)
  4. 1 or 2 Blankets and or a Great Coat. (Sleeping bags must be out of site during public hours!)
  5. Towel and toiletries. (We have modern sanitary facilities and showers available.)
  6. Messing kit, such as plate, bowl, cup, knife, fork and spoon.
  7. Period musical instruments, such as fifes, flutes, drums, fiddles, are always welcome.
  8. And of course, don't forget your musket, cartridge box and bayonet. (No powder, we provide that.)
  9. Anything else you might think you need? (Remember, if you pack it, you have to carry it!)
