General Safety for On Site Encampment and Buildings
- Fires will only be lit in designated hearths. Please check
with
your
Building Safety Officer before lighting a fireplace.
- Open fires and hearths shall not be left unattended when lit.
- Building occupants must be aware of fire alarm location. Please
check
with
your Building Safety Officer.
- Children must not be left unsupervised at any time.
- Foul or abusive language is not permitted.
- Public consumption of alcohol and public intoxication are
forbidden by
law in Ontario.
Firearms Safety for On Site Encampment and Buildings
- No handguns will be permitted for use at the site, except as
directed
by
the site Firearms Officer, (for pre-arranged duelling purposes only.)
- No firearms are to be kept loaded when not on the battlefield.
- No firearms are to be left unattended. (You may leave your
musket
locked in a rack, at the Armourer's shop, if you do not wish to carry
it
around all the time.)
- No firearms are to be discharged in or near buildings, tent
lines, or
members
of the public.
- Firing of weapons is to be done only in designated areas or
behind the
armourer's shop. (A loud caution must be given prior to firing.)
- Only site provided cartridges are to be used.
- Short barreled weapons will not be used in line firing.
Code of Conduct
- Whenever possible, please stay in character during public hours.
- Please keep use of moderisms to a minimum during public hours.
- Please keep modern items hidden from public view during public
hours.
- Please use common sense when interacting with the public.
- If you are not sure, or not familiar with questions asked by the
public
about Fort William, please refer them to the site staff.
- Please remember that Fort William Historical Park is a Government
of
Ontario
workplace, and that government Occupational Health and Safety
Regulations
are in effect.
- Smoking is only permitted in designated areas.
- No Pets are permitted on site.
- If you are not sure, or have a question about something, consult
with
your
Camp Matron or one of the site staff.
For the purposes of
Re-Enactment,
while engaged in an opposing line, the following should be strictly
adhered
to.
- No Officer or NCO
in
command
of a group, platoon, section or company of men, shall load and fire his
weapon.
- An Officer or NCO
in
command
of any body of men that are firing, shall face down his line and
observe
that all procedures are correct.
- Platoons or
sections
should
have Snr. NCO's behind the rear rank, whenever possible, to ensure that
safety precautions and proper procedure is being used.
- No soldier shall
use
his rammer,
or place any paper or object into the muzzle of his musket, other than
loose powder.
- No soldier shall
draw
his rammer,
or make motions of drawing a rammer, while facing opposing lines.
- No soldier shall
use
more than
the allocated amount of powder suitable for his bore diameter.
- No soldier shall
level
his musket
at an opposing line closer than 50 yards.
- A soldier shall
lower
his musket
to a 30' depressed angle at opposing lines closer than 50 yards distant.
- No soldier shall
discharge a
musket at an opposing line within 20 yards distance on a 30' angle to
either
side.
- No soldier shall
discharge his
musket within 5 yards of the public, to either side or rear.
- No soldier shall
discharge his
musket within 75 yards of the public, to his front on an angle of 45'
to
either side.
Blank Cartridge Powder
Guidelines
In addition
to standard
blue paper to indicate blank cartridges, smaller bore weapons should
also
indicate the amount of charge being used. This will be
accomplished
by use of a marking on the paper of the cartridge to indicate it's
purpose
or amount of charge.
